How To Keep Your Skin Protected Against UV Rays All Day Long

Posted by Stem Organics Admin on

The harmful UV rays of the sun are your skin’s worst enemy when it comes to aging. You may think that as long as you aren’t sunbathing on a regular basis then your skin will stay protected, but did you know that just a few minutes of sun exposure to unprotected parts of your body on a daily basis can have just as damaging an effect as lounging on the beach for hours?

Our faces are the most at risk, so it’s important to be sure you are protecting it everyday. You may have heard that you should reapply sunscreen throughout the day, but you may wonder how you should go about this if you are wearing makeup.

Keep reading for some tips on how to provide your skin with proper protection so you can avoid the damaging and aging effects of the sun.

Also, it is worth noting that one of our three key signature ingredients, the Pomegranate Extract is high in polyphenois and powerful antioxidants, and its extract can increase the SPF of topical sunscreens by 25 percent. It is an amazing, healing fruit.

Apply SPF Before Foundation

Of course if you wear a full face of makeup everyday, it’s not logical to have to remove it throughout the day just so you can reapply your sunscreen.

As long as you apply your sunscreen before you apply your foundation, and as long as you aren’t sweating heavily during the day, there is absolutely no need to reapply.

Opt for an SPF of at least 30 or higher, and avoid chemical sunscreens that are full of chemicals. Physical sunscreens contain pure active minerals to reflect UV rays back into the environment, and they won’t put your health at risk.

Use a Foundation With SPF For Additional Protection

Many foundations include SPF in the formula, so combined with your sunscreen prior to applying your foundation, you are providing your skin with additional protection against damaging UV rays.

Of course if your foundation contains protection of SPF 30 or higher then you don’t even need to apply sunscreen before your foundation, as your foundation will provide enough protection. Many people prefer relying on mineral makeup to provide sun protection, rather than physical sunblocks which do tend to be a bit thick and heavy on the skin.

Before purchasing your mineral makeup be sure to always check the label and make sure it contains only pure active minerals and no additional fillers or preservatives.

Reapply After Sweating

The only time it’s important to reapply your sunscreen is if you are sweating heavily and exposed to the sun during your sweat fest. This can include time spent on the beach, or any physical activity outdoors. Sweating makes your sunscreen slide off, so it’s important to always reapply when you find yourself sweating heavily in the summer sun.

We hope these tips help to make it easier to protect your precious skin. Don’t forget your ears and neck too, as not only do these areas also show signs of aging, they are common targets for skin cancer as many people forget about these areas!
