These tips won’t just help you get rid of the unwanted grease, but help you stop it from appearing in the first place.
What Causes Oily Skin
Before we get into the top tips for getting rid of grease for good, let’s take a look at the common causes of oily skin which you may not have known about.
Grease appears on the skin when the sebaceous glands are overactive and produce excessive amounts of skin oil called “sebum.”
The biggest cause of oily skin is genetics. If one or both of your parents have oily skin, you’re much more likely to have it too.
Other factors that contribute to oily skin are:
- Skin Products: Constantly using products that are harmful may in fact disrupt your skin’s balance thus causing an increase in sebum production which leads to oily skin.
Birth control pills, pregnancy, stress, and hot, humid weather may also contribute to increased oily skin.
10 Tips For Coping With Oily Skin
- Wash your face twice daily, in the morning and at night. Overdoing it will stimulate sebaceous glands to produce more oil.
- Use oil based products to cleanse skin so that you don’t dry it out which will result in the overproduction of sebum.
- Don’t use harsh soaps or cleansers as this will only stimulate oil production.
- Use lukewarm water as hot water is too drying.
- Exfoliate twice a week.
- Use products that are “non-comedogenic” as these won’t dry out the pores.
- Don’t use products containing alcohol.
- Don’t squeeze pimples as this can cause infection and take longer to heal.
- Natural blotting paper is great and won’t dry out your skin. Simply press gently to area to absorb excess oil.
- Follow a clean, organic diet including lots of vegetables and fibre.
Lastly, using all natural skin products goes a long way. Using products that don’t contain chemicals will benefit your skin from the inside out and keep it healthy.
